What engineering plants run on a shift
Engineering and manufacturing covers the widest range of work on the corridor: machine shops that turn and mill parts to a drawing, fabrication shops that cut, bend and weld steel, tool rooms that make and mend dies, and plants that cast, mould and assemble. Peenya Industrial Area in Bengaluru’s north-west is the best-known engineering hub, and engineering units also run along Hosur Road, through Jigani, out to Hoskote and Dabaspet, and across Hosur.
Most of the work starts from a drawing. An operator sets the job, runs the first part, measures it with a vernier, micrometer or gauge, and only then runs the batch. Fabricators mark, cut and bend sheet and plate; welders and fitters join and line up the parts; and senior hands, such as CNC programmers, tool and die makers and CAD / CAM draughtsmen, write the programs, make the tools and draw the jobs that everyone else works from.
Every one of these trades is a numbered skill in the app, from #1001 Machine Operator (General) to #1102 CNC Programmer (VMC/HMC). Each skill starts at L1 when you add it, and only SuperGig raises a level, from the shifts plants approve. A shift lists the skills it needs and one minimum level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
