What sheet metal fabricator work involves
01What the work is
Sheet-metal fabrication works with thin material, usually cold-rolled steel, galvanised sheet, stainless steel or aluminium from half a millimetre to a few millimetres thick. The fabricator reads the drawing and its flat pattern, the unfolded shape with bend allowances, and makes the blank by shearing, laser or turret punching. Edges are bent on a press brake or folding machine, curves rolled, and parts joined by spot welding, MIG or TIG welding, riveting, self-clinching nuts or screws. Corners are ground and dressed so enclosures look clean and fit their doors, and the finished part goes to powder coating or assembly.
02A shift, start to finish
A fabrication shift often follows one job through several machines. You check the drawing revision, the material grade and thickness, and mark or cut the blanks; you bend in the right sequence so later flanges do not clash with the tool; you fit up and join panels with clamps holding them square; and you check overall sizes, diagonals, hole positions and door gaps with tape, square and vernier. Because sheet scratches and dents easily, parts are handled on clean tables and stacked with separators. Burrs are removed and offcuts cleared before the next job.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
#1206 starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Plants can post fabrication shifts with a minimum level, higher for finished enclosures and stainless work than for simple brackets. Approved #1206 shifts, verified on-time arrivals and plant ratings build the record SuperGig uses to raise your level.

- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
