What a machine operator does on the floor
A machine operator keeps one production machine, or a small group of them, running through a shift. The work changes with the machine. An injection moulding operator watches the cycle, takes parts out of the mould and trims the flash. A power press operator feeds blanks and keeps both hands clear of the die. A lathe operator turns bars and castings to the size on the drawing. What stays the same is the rhythm: start-up checks, steady output, a close look at the parts coming off, and a clean hand-over to the next shift.
Plants want operators who can follow a job card, count and record output, spot a bad part early and stop the machine when something sounds wrong. Process machines such as die casting, melting furnaces and heat treatment ask for more experience, and running a boiler needs a licence. Garment, food, pharma and printing plants have operator roles of their own, and each one is a separate skill in the app.
When a plant posts an operator shift, it can list the skills the work needs and one minimum level for all of them. You see both before you book, and SuperGig checks your levels before the booking is accepted.
Safety and PPE
Every plant sets its own safety rules. A shift can list what to bring or wear, like safety shoes or PPE, and the hard parts, like heavy lifting or night work, so read it before you book.
