What a plant electrician does

A plant electrician keeps power, motors and controls running, safely. On a maintenance shift that can mean finding why a motor tripped, changing a contactor or an overload relay, checking earthing, terminating a new cable or working through the preventive checks on a panel. Every job ends in the maintenance log: what failed, what you changed and how you tested it. Panel wiremen build and wire control panels to the drawing, and instrumentation technicians look after the sensors, transmitters and loops that tell a process what is happening.

Automation goes further. PLC and automation technicians read ladder logic, find the input or output that is holding up a line and get it moving again, and robotics technicians look after robot cells and cobots. Electronics benches test and repair boards, and newer plants bring EV battery and BMS work.

Work on electrical installations is licensed. In the app, #1401 Electrician, #1402 Industrial / Maintenance Electrician and #1406 HT / LT Switchgear Technician count from L1 only once SuperGig has verified your #2004 Electrical Wireman / Supervisor Licence.

Safety and PPE

Every plant sets its own safety rules. A shift can list what to bring or wear, like safety shoes or PPE, and the hard parts, like heavy lifting or night work, so read it before you book.

  • Lockout, every time Lockout and tagout before work; #2008 Hot Work / LOTO Certified is a certificate SuperGig verifies.
  • Insulated tools Use insulated tools and electrical gloves rated for the voltage you work on.
  • Safety shoes Shoes made for electrical hazards help keep you out of the circuit.
  • HT needs its permit High-tension switchgear needs the right licence and the plant’s permit to work: never work without both.

How a skill levels up

  1. L1Starter
  2. L2Skilled
  3. L3Proficient
  4. L4Expert
  5. L5Master

Every skill starts at L1 when you add it, unless it waits for a licence. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record. Three things move a skill up:

  • Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
  • Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
  • How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.

The app shows what each skill’s next level needs.

The skill check

A shift can list skills and one minimum level for all of them. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted. A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.

Licences, Certifications & Compliance

Why are my electrician skills not at L1 yet?
Because they wait for a licence. #1401 Electrician, #1402 Industrial / Maintenance Electrician and #1406 HT / LT Switchgear Technician count from L1 only once SuperGig has verified your #2004 Electrical Wireman / Supervisor Licence. Add it in the app, tap “Ask SuperGig to verify” and keep the original ready: SuperGig support will call you and check it against your verified Aadhaar.
Which electrical and instrumentation skills can I add?
Nine: Electrician, Industrial / Maintenance Electrician, PLC / Automation Technician, Instrumentation Technician, Panel Wireman, HT / LT Switchgear Technician, Robotics / Cobot Technician, Electronics Test & Repair Technician and EV Battery / BMS Technician.
Do PLC and instrumentation skills need a licence too?
Not in the app. #1403 PLC / Automation Technician, #1404 Instrumentation Technician, #1405 Panel Wireman, #1407 Robotics / Cobot Technician, #1408 Electronics Test & Repair Technician and #1409 EV Battery / BMS Technician start at L1 when you add them. Only #1401, #1402 and #1406 wait for a verified #2004 licence.
Can I take electrician shifts for a day or a few hours?
Yes, when plants post them that way. A shift in the app can be a single day, repeat every week, run in hourly slots of 1 to 8 hours, or come as a multi-day run that you book in one go. In My Availability you set your days, your time-of-day slots and how far you will travel. See part-time shifts.
Is SuperGig my employer on an electrician shift?
No. SuperGig is a marketplace that connects SuperGig Partners with plants, and it is not the employer of record. The plant posts the shift and its pay, checks the work, and approves your pay when it signs the shift off.
Are there full-time, part-time, night or weekend electrical shifts?
When plants post them, yes. Each plant sets the days and hours of its own shifts, and posts them as one-day shifts, weekly repeats, multi-day runs of 1 to 31 days and hourly slots of 1 to 8 hours. You choose which ones to book, so you can work day by day, fill a whole week, or take nights or weekends. See full-time shift work, part-time shifts, night shift jobs and weekend shift jobs.
