What a quality inspector checks

A quality inspector makes sure parts and products match the drawing and the agreed standard before they move on. Inspection happens at three points. Incoming quality control (IQC) checks material and bought-out parts from suppliers. In-process quality control (IPQC) checks parts on the line at set intervals, so a problem is caught early, not at the end of the day. Outgoing or final quality control (OQC) checks finished goods before packing and dispatch.

The tools depend on the product: verniers, micrometers, height and bore gauges and go/no-go gauges for machined parts, a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) for precise three-dimensional checks, vision systems on electronics lines and test rigs at the end of an assembly line. Inspectors sample by plan, often against an AQL table, write readings down, tag lots as accepted, on hold or rejected, and raise a defect report with the evidence when something is out of tolerance.

Reading the drawing is the base of all of it, so the app lists #1311 Blueprint & Measurement Reading as a skill of its own. Calibration, lab analysis, NDT and audit work are separate skills too.

Safety and PPE

Every plant sets its own safety rules. A shift can list what to bring or wear, like safety shoes or PPE, and the hard parts, like heavy lifting or night work, so read it before you book.

  • Eyes on the floor Inspection stations sit on busy floors; wear the glasses the area asks for.
  • Sharp edges Machined parts can carry burrs; handle them with the gloves the plant allows.
  • ESD on electronics lines Boards need an ESD smock and wrist strap; #2017 ESD Handling Certified is a certificate SuperGig verifies.
  • Lab rules Chemical testing means a lab coat, gloves and the plant’s chemical-handling rules.

How a skill levels up

  1. L1Starter
  2. L2Skilled
  3. L3Proficient
  4. L4Expert
  5. L5Master

Every skill starts at L1 when you add it. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record. Three things move a skill up:

  • Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
  • Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
  • How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.

The app shows what each skill’s next level needs.

The skill check

A shift can list skills and one minimum level for all of them. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted. A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.

Licences, Certifications & Compliance

Skills from this category of the app that go with the work.

  • #2014 ISO 9001 / IATF 16949
  • #2011 5S
  • #2017 ESD Handling CertifiedSuperGig verifies

Skills marked “SuperGig verifies” count only once SuperGig has verified them. Keep the original ready: SuperGig support will call you and check it.

ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 and 5S are practices, not personal certificates: you add them like any other skill.

Where a standard fits, the app maps each skill to NCO-2015, NSQF, ISCO-08 and ESCO. #1301 Quality Inspector (QC), for example, maps to NCO-2015 3139.5001, “Quality Control Inspector”.

Which quality and inspection skills can I add?
Eleven: Quality Inspector (QC), Incoming / IQC Inspector, In-Process (IPQC) Inspector, Final / OQC Inspector, CMM Operator, NDT Technician, Calibration / Metrology Technician, Lab Technician / Chemical Analyst, Quality Systems / Internal Auditor, Vision / Gauge Inspection Operator and Blueprint & Measurement Reading. Add the ones you can do; each starts at L1.
What is the difference between IQC, IPQC and OQC?
They are the three points where a plant checks quality. IQC checks incoming material and parts from suppliers, IPQC checks parts on the line while they are being made, and OQC checks finished goods before dispatch. In the app they are separate skills: #1302 Incoming / IQC Inspector, #1303 In-Process (IPQC) Inspector and #1304 Final / OQC Inspector.
Do I need to know how to use a CMM?
Only for shifts that list #1305 CMM Operator. Other inspection shifts can list skills such as #1301 Quality Inspector (QC) or #1311 Blueprint & Measurement Reading instead, and you see a shift’s skills and the level it needs before you book.
Can a fresher get quality inspector shifts?
A shift that lists no skills has no skill check, so any KYC-verified Partner can book it. Shifts that list quality skills need each one at the level they ask for. #1311 Blueprint & Measurement Reading is a good first skill to add, and every skill starts at L1.
When is a quality inspector paid for a shift?
The plant sets the pay, and you see it before you book. After you clock out, the plant checks the shift and approves your pay when it signs it off, with your gate check and clock times beside your name. The app shows what is booked, awaiting approval and earned.
Are there full-time, part-time, night or weekend quality shifts?
When plants post them, yes. Each plant sets the days and hours of its own shifts, and posts them as one-day shifts, weekly repeats, multi-day runs of 1 to 31 days and hourly slots of 1 to 8 hours. You choose which ones to book, so you can work day by day, fill a whole week, or take nights or weekends. See full-time shift work, part-time shifts, night shift jobs and weekend shift jobs.
