What assembly line work is like

On an assembly line, each station adds parts, fastens, tests or checks before the product moves on, and the line keeps a steady pace. An assembly operator learns the work instruction for one station: which parts go in and in what order, the torque or the click that tells you a connector is home, and the check to make before the unit passes on. A good operator keeps the pace without skipping a step, and calls the line leader the moment a part looks wrong.

Electronics plants have line skills of their own: PCB assembly, SMT machine operation, soldering, conformal coating and end-of-line testing. Automotive and EV plants need wiring harness, engine and powertrain, and battery pack assembly. Kitting and sub-assembly stations feed the main line with the right parts at the right time, and precision assembly builds small instruments and devices under magnification.

Line work rewards care before speed: the right part, the right way, every time. Your levels rise as plants approve your shifts in a skill, from L1 (Starter) to L5 (Master).

Safety and PPE

Every plant sets its own safety rules. A shift can list what to bring or wear, like safety shoes or PPE, and the hard parts, like heavy lifting or night work, so read it before you book.

  • ESD protection Electronics lines use ESD smocks, wrist straps and heel straps; #2017 ESD Handling Certified is a certificate SuperGig verifies.
  • Solder fumes and splashes Wear safety glasses and keep the fume extractor on while you solder.
  • Repetitive strain Stretch between cycles, and tell the line leader if a station hurts.
  • Battery packs EV packs store energy even when unplugged: use insulated tools and follow the plant’s rules exactly.

How a skill levels up

  1. L1Starter
  2. L2Skilled
  3. L3Proficient
  4. L4Expert
  5. L5Master

Every skill starts at L1 when you add it. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record. Three things move a skill up:

  • Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
  • Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
  • How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.

The app shows what each skill’s next level needs.

The skill check

A shift can list skills and one minimum level for all of them. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted. A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.

Licences, Certifications & Compliance

Skills from this category of the app that go with the work.

  • #2017 ESD Handling CertifiedSuperGig verifies
  • #2018 Cleanroom Protocol CertifiedSuperGig verifies
  • #2011 5S

Skills marked “SuperGig verifies” count only once SuperGig has verified them. Keep the original ready: SuperGig support will call you and check it.

5S is a practice, not personal certificate: you add it like any other skill.

Where a standard fits, the app maps each skill to NCO-2015, NSQF, ISCO-08 and ESCO. #1601 Assembly Line Operator, for example, maps to NCO-2015 7422.1901, “Assembly Line Operator”.

Which assembly skills can I add?
Eleven: Assembly Line Operator, Electronics / PCB Assembly, Wiring / Harness Assembly, Engine / Powertrain Assembly, Soldering Operator, EV Battery Pack Assembly, SMT Machine Operator, Conformal Coating / Screen Printing (PCB), Precision / Micro Assembly, End-of-Line Test Operator and Sub-Assembly / Kitting Operator.
I have never worked on a line. Can I still book assembly shifts?
Yes, where a shift allows it. A shift that lists no skills has no skill check, so any KYC-verified Partner can book it. If a shift lists skills, you need each one at the level it asks for. Every skill starts at L1 when you add it, and #1601 Assembly Line Operator and #1611 Sub-Assembly / Kitting Operator are good places to start.
Do electronics assembly shifts need ESD training?
If a shift lists #2017 ESD Handling Certified or #2018 Cleanroom Protocol Certified, you need it at the shift’s level. Both are certificate skills that count only once SuperGig verifies them: add the certificate, tap “Ask SuperGig to verify”, and SuperGig support will call you.
Can I book a whole run of assembly shifts at once?
Yes, when a plant posts a multi-day run. You book a run of 1 to 31 days in one swipe: all the days or none. If your plans change, you can skip a day or stop the run, and the app shows the effect on your SuperScore before you confirm.
How do I find the right gate on my first day?
Each shift tells you which gate to come to; a plant can have up to 12 named gates. Show the guard your WorkPass, a 6-digit code that changes every 30 seconds, or its QR code. Then clock in inside the plant when your shift starts.
Are there full-time, part-time, night or weekend assembly line shifts?
When plants post them, yes. Each plant sets the days and hours of its own shifts, and posts them as one-day shifts, weekly repeats, multi-day runs of 1 to 31 days and hourly slots of 1 to 8 hours. You choose which ones to book, so you can work day by day, fill a whole week, or take nights or weekends. See full-time shift work, part-time shifts, night shift jobs and weekend shift jobs.
