What foundry moulder and core maker work involves
01What the work is
Sand casting makes pump and valve bodies, brake drums, flywheels, machine beds and many other iron and aluminium parts. In green sand moulding, sand bonded with clay and water is rammed around a pattern in a two-part box, the cope and the drag; the pattern is drawn out, gates and risers are cut so metal can flow in and feed the casting, and the halves are closed. Many foundries use moulding machines or automatic moulding lines for this. Cores are made separately by blowing or ramming resin-bonded sand into a core box and hardening it, for example with gas or heat, then set into the mould before it closes.
02A shift, start to finish
On a foundry shift you start with the sand: the plant’s sand lab checks moisture and strength, and you report sand that feels too wet or too dry. Then you make moulds or cores to the pattern card, check them for broken edges, loose sand and cracked cores, blow out loose grains, set cores in their prints and close the mould with weights or clamps so it cannot lift when metal goes in. You may help at pouring and knock-out, when castings are shaken out of the sand. Foundries are hot, dusty and heavy work, and good moulders are careful ones: a soft mould or a badly set core means a scrap casting.

How your level rises
#1008 Foundry Moulder / Core Maker starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
