Also calledmechanical draughtsman,CAD draughtsman,draftsman,design draughtsman,CAD/CAM engineer,2D/3D CAD designer,CAM programmer
A CAD/CAM draughtsman turns ideas, sketches and worn samples into 2D drawings and 3D models of parts, tools and fixtures, with the dimensions, tolerances and notes the shop floor needs, and prepares CNC toolpaths from those models. In SuperGig Partner this is skill #1110: plants book it by number and level like every skill, and when plants in Hosur and Bengaluru post drawing or CAM shifts you see them with the pay before you book.

What CAD/CAM draughtsman work involves
01What the work is
Every part made in a plant starts as a drawing. The draughtsman models parts and assemblies in 3D CAD, then produces the 2D drawings the shop works from: views in first-angle projection, dimensions, tolerances, geometric tolerancing, surface finish and material notes, plus a bill of materials for assemblies. Sheet-metal parts need flat patterns with bend allowances; fixtures and tools need detail drawings for each component. In plants that machine their own parts, the same person often works in CAM, choosing tools and strategies and generating the toolpaths that are post-processed into CNC programs. Revisions are controlled, so the floor always has the current drawing.
02A shift, start to finish
A draughting shift is mostly at a workstation, with regular trips to the floor. You may take measurements from a worn part with verniers and a height gauge to redraw it, model a new fixture the production engineer has sketched, update a drawing after an engineering change, or prepare a nest of sheet-metal parts for the laser. CAM work means setting the stock and fixture, choosing tools, creating roughing and finishing toolpaths, simulating them for collisions, and posting code for the machine. When the first part is made, you compare the inspection report with the drawing and fix anything the drawing got wrong.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
#1110 starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Plants can list it on a shift with a minimum level, and they read that level as a sign of how much drawing and CAM work you have done for plants. SuperGig raises your level from approved #1110 shifts, verified on-time arrivals and plant ratings; the app does not promise any title or pay, and every shift shows its pay before you book.

Machines, instruments and tools
- 3D CAD software
- Models parts, assemblies and sheet metal.
- 2D drafting software
- Produces production drawings and layouts.
- CAM software and post-processors
- Turn models into CNC programs for specific machines.
- Drawing standards
- First-angle projection, tolerancing and symbols the plant follows.
- Vernier, micrometer and height gauge
- For measuring samples and checking parts.
- Plotter and printer
- For issuing controlled drawing copies to the floor.
Safety and PPE
Every plant sets its own safety rules. A shift can list what to bring or wear and the hard parts of the work, so read it before you book.
- PPE on the floorWear the area’s PPE whenever you go onto the shop floor to measure or check.
- Screen breaksRest your eyes and stretch regularly during long CAD sessions.
- Drawings stay in the plantA plant’s drawings and models are confidential: never copy or share them.
CAD/CAM draughtsman levels, L1 Starter to L5 Master
Plants book by skill number and level. Add the numbered skills you can do; each one climbs from L1 to L5 as plants approve your shifts in it.
- L1Starter
Draws simple parts and makes drawing changes under a senior’s review.
- L2Skilled
Produces complete detail drawings with tolerances and keeps revisions controlled.
- L3Proficient
Models assemblies, fixtures and sheet metal, and creates basic CNC toolpaths.
- L4Expert
Handles complex toolpaths and tool drawings and works with the floor to fix problems.
- L5Master
A draughtsman plants trust with complete design and CAM packages, with a long #1110 record.
How your level rises
#1110 CAD / CAM Draughtsman starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
