Also calledtool maker,die maker,tool room fitter,press tool maker,mould maker,jig and fixture maker,toolroom machinist
A tool and die maker builds and repairs the tooling that production depends on, such as press tools, injection moulds, jigs, fixtures and gauges, by machining, grinding, fitting and trying them out until they make good parts. In SuperGig Partner this is skill #1109: plants book it by number and level like every skill, and when tool rooms and plants in Hosur and Bengaluru post tool room shifts you see them with the pay before you book.

What tool and die maker work involves
01What the work is
The tool room is where a plant’s tooling is made and kept alive. A press tool, from a simple blanking die to a progressive die with a dozen stations, has punches and die inserts in hardened tool steel, set with exact clearances. An injection mould has cavities, cores, cooling channels and ejection. Jigs and fixtures locate and clamp parts for machining, welding and checking. The tool and die maker reads the tool drawing, machines and grinds the parts or works with the EDM and CNC sections, sends steel for heat treatment, then fits, spots, assembles and polishes it all together, and tries the tool out on the press or moulding machine.
02A shift, start to finish
A tool room shift might be a new tool or, just as often, a repair. For new work you check the steel and parts against the drawing, finish critical faces on the surface grinder, fit punches to die openings with the right clearance, spot mating faces with blue and hand-fit them, and assemble guide pillars, springs and strippers. For repairs you strip a damaged die, find the cause, regrind or replace punches and inserts, sharpen cutting edges and reset clearances. A tryout follows: the first parts are checked, and the tool is adjusted until they pass. The tool’s history card records what was done.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
#1109 starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills, and plants book it by skill number and level like any other skill. They may ask for a higher level on tool room shifts, because the work needs experience. SuperGig raises your level only from your record: approved #1109 shifts, verified on-time arrivals and plant ratings. The app does not promise titles or pay; each shift shows its pay before you book.

How your level rises
#1109 Tool & Die Maker starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
