Wire-cut and EDM operator jobs in Hosur & Bengaluru
Also calledwire cut operator, wire EDM operator,EDM operator, spark erosion operator, die sinking EDM operator, wirecut machine operator,EDM drill operator
A wire-cut and EDM operator machines hardened tool steel and carbide with electrical sparks instead of a cutting tool: a thin brass wire cuts punch and die profiles, and shaped electrodes sink mould cavities and fine details. In SuperGig Partner this is skill #1106: add it after KYC and book the wire-cut and EDM shifts tool rooms and plants in Hosur and Bengaluru post, with the pay shown before you book.

What wire-cut and EDM operator work involves
01What the work is
Electrical discharge machining removes metal with thousands of tiny sparks between an electrode and the work, inside a liquid that cools and flushes the gap. It cuts any conductive material regardless of hardness, which is why tool rooms rely on it. Wire-cut EDM uses a continuously fed brass or coated wire, guided top and bottom, to cut through-profiles such as punches, die openings, stripper plates and gear forms, in deionised water. Die-sinking EDM uses a copper or graphite electrode shaped like the cavity, in dielectric oil, to sink mould cavities, ribs and sharp internal corners. Small-hole EDM drills start holes for the wire.
02A shift, start to finish
A wire-cut shift starts with the block: clean, deburred and clamped flat, then aligned with a dial indicator and located by edge finding or the start hole. You thread the wire, set its tension, load the program and the cutting conditions for the material and thickness, and start the rough cut, followed by skim passes for size and finish. While machines run long cycles you watch for wire breaks and poor flushing, check the dielectric resistivity, change filters and resin, and measure finished profiles with micrometers, slip gauges or a profile projector. On a die-sinker you set the electrode square and on depth, and keep the oil level and fire safety checks in order.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
#1106 starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Plants can post EDM shifts with a minimum level, because accurate tool room work needs care that a higher level signals. SuperGig raises your level from approved #1106 shifts, verified on-time arrivals and plant ratings.
What you do on wire-cut and EDM operator shifts
The usual tasks of the trade. Every shift in SuperGig Partner has its own job description with the duties, so you know the work before you book.
- 01
Clamp and align the block
Clamp the block flat and true it with a dial indicator before cutting.
- 02
Thread and set the wire
Thread the wire through the start hole or edge, and set tension and guides.
- 03
Run rough and skim cuts
Load the program and cutting conditions, then run the rough cut and skim passes.
- 04
Look after the dielectric
Check water resistivity or oil level, change filters and resin, and keep flushing good.
- 05
Measure the profile
Measure punches and die openings with micrometers, slip gauges or a profile projector.
- 06
Log the job
Record cutting time, wire breaks, conditions used and the measured sizes.
Machines, instruments and tools
- CNC wire-cut EDM
- Cuts through-profiles in hardened steel and carbide with a travelling wire.
- Die-sinking EDM
- Sinks cavities with shaped copper or graphite electrodes in oil.
- Small-hole EDM drill
- Drills start holes and fine holes in hard material.
- Electrodes and brass wire
- The “tools” of EDM, consumed as the work is cut.
- Dial indicator and edge finder
- Align the block and find its datums.
- Profile projector
- Magnifies a profile to check it against the drawing.
Safety and PPE
Every plant sets its own safety rules. A shift can list what to bring or wear and the hard parts of the work, so read it before you book.
- Oil fire riskOn a die-sinker, keep the oil level above the work and never leave a burn unattended without the fire system on.
- Live machineNever touch the work or electrode while the generator is on.
- Heavy die blocksLift die blocks with the hoist and keep fingers clear when lowering them.
- Skin and dielectricWear gloves when handling oil-wet parts, and wash dielectric off your skin.
Wire-cut and EDM operator levels, L1 Starter to L5 Master
Plants book by skill number and level. Add the numbered skills you can do; each one climbs from L1 to L5 as plants approve your shifts in it.
- L1Starter
Loads and aligns blocks and runs proven wire-cut programs under guidance.
- L2Skilled
Threads wire, sets conditions and runs skim passes to size on standard jobs.
- L3Proficient
Handles tapers, small punches and fine finishes, and keeps wire breaks low.
- L4Expert
Runs both wire-cut and die-sinking EDM and plans cuts with the tool maker.
- L5Master
An EDM operator a tool room trusts with its most precise work, with a long #1106 record.
How your level rises
#1106 EDM / Wire-Cut Operator starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
