What loader and material handler work involves
01What the work is
Loading and unloading is the most physical work in a plant, and the plant stops without it. Incoming trucks bring raw material in bags, coils, crates, cartons and drums; outgoing trucks take finished goods out on pallets or stacked by hand. A material handler unloads, counts and checks for damage, moves goods to the stores or the line with hand pallet trucks and trolleys, and builds outgoing loads so they ride safely and come off in the right order. Inside the plant, handlers also feed lines with full bins, clear finished goods away and take scrap and empties to the yard.
02A shift, start to finish
The shift follows the trucks. A vehicle docks, the wheels are chocked, and the team looks the load over before anything moves; then it comes off layer by layer, heavy items first onto pallets near the floor. Each item is counted against the delivery paper and stacked no higher than the plant allows. For dispatch you build the load to the plan, heavy at the bottom and spread evenly, and help the driver tie it down. Between trucks you clear the dock, stack the empty pallets and return the trolleys.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
In the app this is #1704 Material Handler / Loader. NCO-2015 names the occupation 9333.0101, Loader/Loading and Unloading Operator, and the national register has no loader qualification yet, so the app shows no NSQF level. No licence is needed and the skill starts at L1 when you add it. On a plant’s shift the duties can read “Loading and unloading” or “Material handling”, two of the duty choices in the app plants post from.

How your level rises
#1704 Material Handler / Loader starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
