What labelling and sorting work involves
01What the work is
Labels carry the facts a product travels with: part number, batch or lot, date, quantity, barcode and, on consumer packs, the details the law requires. A labelling station prints them, applies them straight and in the right place, and scans each one to prove it reads. Sorting is the other half of the job: separating mixed goods by size, colour, grade, batch or customer, setting rejects aside and keeping each lot apart so it cannot be mixed up again. Both reward the same habit: checking every piece, not just most of them.
02A shift, start to finish
A labelling shift starts by loading the right label roll and template and checking the first print against the master sample: text, batch, date and barcode. Then the rhythm sets in: pick up, label, scan, place down. When the job changes, every old label is cleared from the station before the new roll goes on, so no wrong label survives. On sorting shifts you work from a reference sample or a sorting instruction, keep good and doubtful pieces in separate, marked bins and write down the count for each lot.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
In the app this is #1803 Labelling / Sorting, under Packing & Dispatch. NCO-2015 lists the labeller as 9321.0201, while sorting has its own code, 9329.0600 (Sorter). There is no NSQF qualification for the work, and none is needed: the skill starts at L1 when you add it. Labelling and sorting are mostly careful bench work rather than heavy lifting, and a plant can list #1803 on its own or together with #1801 Packing Operator.

- Fingers clear of applicatorsKeep fingers away from the peel plate and rollers of a label applicator while it runs.
- Good light, rested eyesWork in good light and rest your eyes now and then; sorting small parts all shift is tiring.
- Change postureAlternate sitting and standing where you can, and stretch your wrists and back during breaks.
- Anti-static where askedIn electronics areas, wear the ESD wrist strap and coat before you touch boards or components.
Labelling and sorting levels, L1 Starter to L5 Master
Plants book by skill number and level. Add the numbered skills you can do; each one climbs from L1 to L5 as plants approve your shifts in it.

- L2Skilled
You run a labelling or sorting task on your own and keep the counts and rejects recorded.
- L3Proficient
You set up label jobs, catch wrong prints and mixed lots, and manage changeovers cleanly.
- L4Expert
You handle complex label jobs and the sorting of suspect stock, and guide the people at your station.
- L5Master
You train labelling and sorting staff and help the plant prevent label mix-ups.
How your level rises
#1803 Labelling / Sorting starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
