What vision and gauge inspection operator work involves
01What the work is
Automated inspection checks every part or board faster than people can, but it still needs people. On a printed circuit board line, automated optical inspection, AOI, photographs each board after soldering and flags missing, shifted or wrong components, bridges and poor joints; the operator reviews each flag at a station and confirms a real defect or rejects a false call. On assembly and machining lines, camera stations check presence, orientation and labels, and multi-gauging stations with air or electronic probes measure several diameters at once. Sorting machines check parts one by one. The operator keeps all of this honest with masters and golden samples.
02A shift, start to finish
A vision or gauge shift starts with verification: the station must pass and fail its master or golden sample before production runs through it, and gauging stations are set with their setting masters. Then you load or feed parts, watch the results, and review every flagged part or board carefully, under a microscope where needed, sorting real defects from false calls and sending defects for rework with the defect marked. You count and record defects by type, because a sudden rise in one defect means a process upstream has drifted, and you tell the line at once. False calls are recorded too, so engineers can tune the program.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
#1310 starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Plants can list #1310 on a shift with a minimum level, perhaps higher for AOI review on dense boards. SuperGig raises your level from approved #1310 shifts, verified on-time arrivals and plant ratings.
What you do on vision and gauge inspection operator shifts
The usual tasks of the trade. Every shift in SuperGig Partner has its own job description with the duties, so you know the work before you book.
- 01
Verify with masters
Run the master or golden sample through and confirm the station passes and fails correctly.
- 02
Run the inspection
Load or feed parts and boards and watch the station’s results.
- 03
Review every flag
Review flagged boards or parts and decide: real defect or false call.
- 04
Send defects for rework
Mark the defect clearly and route the part or board to rework.
- 05
Count defects by type
Record defects and false calls by type and spot sudden rises.
- 06
Warn the line
Tell the line at once when one defect type suddenly increases.
Machines, instruments and tools
- AOI machine
- Inspects soldered boards for component and joint defects.
- Vision camera station
- Checks presence, position, orientation and labels on assemblies.
- Multi-gauge station
- Air or electronic probes measuring many sizes at once.
- Golden samples and setting masters
- Prove the station is judging correctly.
- Review station and microscope
- For confirming flagged defects up close.
- Defect log
- Records real defects and false calls by type.
Safety and PPE
Every plant sets its own safety rules. A shift can list what to bring or wear and the hard parts of the work, so read it before you book.
- ESD protectionWear the wrist strap and ESD coat and keep boards on ESD-safe surfaces.
- Conveyor pinch pointsKeep fingers away from conveyor edges and board clamps.
- Rest your eyesReview work strains the eyes: use the breaks and adjust the microscope properly.
Vision and gauge inspection operator levels, L1 Starter to L5 Master
Plants book by skill number and level. Add the numbered skills you can do; each one climbs from L1 to L5 as plants approve your shifts in it.
- L1Starter
Runs a verified station, loads parts and sends flagged items for review.
- L2Skilled
Reviews flags and separates real defects from false calls on familiar products.
- L3Proficient
Verifies stations with masters and reviews dense boards or complex parts accurately.
- L4Expert
Covers several inspection systems and helps engineers reduce false calls.
- L5Master
An inspection operator plants trust with their most demanding lines, with a long #1310 record.
How your level rises
#1310 Vision / Gauge Inspection Operator starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.

- #2017 ESD Handling CertifiedSuperGig verifies
No licence is needed to add #1310. For PCB lines, #2017 ESD Handling Certified counts once SuperGig has verified it.
Skills marked “SuperGig verifies” count only once SuperGig has verified them.
