The work

What electronics and PCB assembly work involves

01What the work is

Most of a modern board is placed by SMT machines, but many parts are still fitted by hand: connectors, relays, transformers, large capacitors, terminal blocks and the parts that carry heat or current. On a manual insertion line each operator fits a few parts per board, checking polarity marks, orientation and the part number on the reel or tray, before the board goes through wave or selective soldering. After soldering come touch-up, lead cutting, cleaning and visual inspection, and then box build: fitting boards into enclosures with screws, cables, heat sinks and labels, and scanning each serial number for traceability. People search for this as a PCB assembler, electronics assembly operator or PCBA operator job.

02A shift, start to finish

A shift on a PCB line starts with ESD checks: smock on, wrist and heel straps tested at the tester, bench mat grounded. At your station you check the kit against the work instruction and the sample board, then fit your parts on each board as it arrives, pressing them fully home and checking polarity before passing it on. If a part is wrong, a reel looks mislabelled or a board is damaged, you stop and call the line leader rather than guess. Moisture-sensitive and loose parts go back to the stores the way the plant’s rules say. At the end of the shift the station is cleared and every part count is right.

03Your skill in SuperGig Partner

#1602 sits in Assembly & Production Line and is mapped to NCO-2015 8212.0400 Assembler, Electrical Accessories, at NSQF level 4; in the app’s skill standard, the NSQF qualification PCB Assembly Technician (NSQF 4) is written at about L4 Expert. It starts at L1 when you add it and rises with the PCB assembly shifts plants approve. Electronics shifts often list certificates such as #2017 ESD Handling Certified, which count only once SuperGig has verified them, and close skills such as #1605 Soldering Operator and #1607 SMT Machine Operator.

On the shift

What you do on electronics and PCB assembly shifts

The usual tasks of the trade. Every shift in SuperGig Partner has its own job description with the duties, so you know the work before you book.

  1. 01

    Insert through-hole parts

Fit connectors, capacitors, relays and other parts fully home, the right way round.

  2. 02

    Check polarity and part

Match each part to the work instruction and check polarity marks before you pass the board on.

  3. 03

    Touch-up and lead cutting

Touch up joints after wave soldering and cut leads to length, at stations that include it.

  4. 04

    Box build

Fit boards into enclosures with screws, cables, heat sinks and labels.

  5. 05

    Scan for traceability

Scan board and unit serial numbers at each step the line asks for.

  6. 06

    Handle it ESD-safe

Hold boards by their edges, on ESD-safe surfaces, with your straps tested.

Machines, instruments and tools

ESD bench, mat and wrist strap
Keep static away from sensitive parts.
ESD smock and heel straps
Ground you while you move around the line.
Lead cutter and pliers
Trim and form component leads.
Insertion fixtures and pallets
Hold boards and guide parts into place.
Magnifier lamp
Checks polarity marks and small part markings.
Soldering iron for touch-up
Repairs joints after wave soldering, at the stations that do it.
Electric screwdriver and barcode scanner
For box build and traceability.

Safety and PPE

Every plant sets its own safety rules. A shift can list what to bring or wear and the hard parts of the work, so read it before you book.

  • ESD disciplineTest your straps at the start of each shift and after breaks; #2017 ESD Handling Certified is a certificate SuperGig verifies.
  • Flying leadsCut leads fly and prick: cut towards a catch tray and wear safety glasses.
  • Fumes and residueKeep fume extraction on at touch-up stations, and wash your hands before you eat.
  • Powered unitsNever handle a unit under test unless the work instruction says it is safe to.

Electronics and PCB assembly levels, L1 Starter to L5 Master

Plants book by skill number and level. Add the numbered skills you can do; each one climbs from L1 to L5 as plants approve your shifts in it.

  1. L1Starter

Fits a few simple parts at one station under supervision, learning polarity, orientation and ESD habits.

  2. L2Skilled

Keeps pace at insertion and box-build stations and checks their own boards.

  3. L3Proficient

Works several stations alone and catches polarity, missing-part and damage errors before they travel.

  4. L4Expert

Handles new boards from the work instruction, touch-up and assembly rework, and guides others; the NSQF qualification PCB Assembly Technician (NSQF 4) is written at about this level.

  5. L5Master

Guides, mentors and trains other assemblers, checks workmanship and helps the line keep its work instructions right.

How your level rises

#1602 Electronics / PCB Assembly starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:

  • Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
  • Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
  • How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.

The app shows what your next level needs.

The skill check on a shift

A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.

A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.

Licences and standards

Licences and certificates

  • #2017 ESD Handling CertifiedSuperGig verifies
  • #2018 Cleanroom Protocol CertifiedSuperGig verifies

#1602 starts at L1 when you add it: no licence gate. Electronics lines commonly list #2017 ESD Handling Certified, and cleanroom areas #2018 Cleanroom Protocol Certified.

Skills marked “SuperGig verifies” count only once SuperGig has verified them.

Asked to pay for a shift?

Don’t pay. SuperGig never charges Partners to join or to get a shift.

Tell us
What is the difference between THT and SMT assembly?
THT, through-hole technology, means parts with leads that go through holes in the board and are soldered on the other side, often by hand insertion and wave soldering: that is #1602 work. SMT, surface-mount technology, means small parts placed on pads by machines and soldered in a reflow oven: that is #1607 SMT Machine Operator. Most boards have both.
Do I need soldering skills for PCB assembly shifts?
Not always. Many insertion and box-build stations involve no soldering at all. Stations that touch up joints after wave soldering do, and shifts that need it often list #1605 Soldering Operator beside #1602, so you see it before you book.
What is ESD and why does it matter?
Electrostatic discharge: the static your body builds up can damage a chip without you feeling anything, and the damage may only show later, in a customer’s product. That is why electronics lines use smocks, wrist and heel straps, grounded mats and ESD-safe trays, and why you test your straps every shift.
Are there full-time, night or weekend PCB assembly shifts?
When plants post them. Electronics plants often run two or three shifts, especially while a product is ramping up, and may add weekend shifts in busy months. In the app you can book a weekly repeat or a multi-day run and see the hours and pay first. See night shift jobs, weekend shift jobs and full-time shift work.
How do I get PCB assembly work near Electronic City with SuperGig?
Pre-register on this page for the SuperGig Partner app; onboarding is direct. Complete KYC with Aadhaar and PAN, add #1602 and, if you have it, #2017, and ask SuperGig to verify the certificate. Then set My Availability to reach Electronic City and Bommasandra, and PCB shifts near you show on Find Shifts with their pay, their skills and the gate.
Is box build part of #1602?
Yes. Box build, fitting finished boards into their enclosures with screws, cables, heat sinks, displays and labels, counts as electronics assembly in the app. If your work is mostly cutting, crimping and taping wires, add #1603 Wiring / Harness Assembly too.
