What wiring harness assembly work involves
01What the work is
A wiring harness is the nervous system of a vehicle, a machine or an appliance: dozens or hundreds of wires, cut to length, fitted with terminals, gathered into connectors and bundled so they fit the product exactly. Making one starts in the cutting area, where machines cut and strip wire to the cut list and crimp presses fit the terminals; continues at the formboard, a full-size layout of the harness where operators route each wire between pegs and push terminals into connector housings; and ends with taping, sleeves, grommets and clips, then an electrical test of every circuit. Automotive harnesses for two-wheelers, cars and EVs are a large share of this work, and people search for it as a wiring harness operator, crimping operator or cable assembly job.
02A shift, start to finish
A typical harness shift is spent at one stage. In cutting and crimping, you load the wire and terminal reels, run the first-off, and check crimp height with a crimp micrometer and crimp strength with a pull tester before running the batch. At the formboard, you take the wires from the kit, route each one along its path, push each terminal into its cavity until it clicks, give it a gentle pull to prove it is locked, then tape and dress the bundle to the drawing. At the test board, you plug the harness in and fix or tag every circuit that fails. Each harness leaves with its label and its record.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
#1603 sits in Assembly & Production Line and is mapped to NCO-2015 8212.0401 Cutting, Crimping and Connector Assembly Operator, at NSQF level 3; in the app’s skill standard, the NSQF qualification Wiring Harness Assembly Operator (NSQF 3) is written at about L3 Proficient. It has no licence gate, so it starts at L1 when you add it and rises with the harness shifts plants approve. Wiring electrical panels to a schematic is a different skill, #1405 Panel Wireman, though the crimping carries over.

- 03
Insert into connectors
Push each terminal into the right cavity until it clicks, then pull-test it.
- 04
Route on the formboard
Lay each wire along its path on the board and keep the branches to length.
- 05
Tape and dress
Tape, sleeve and fit grommets and clips exactly where the drawing shows.
- 06
Test every circuit
Run the harness on the test board, and fix or tag every failure.

- Check every first-off crimp.
- Wire cutting and stripping machine
- Cuts and strips wire to the cut list.
- Hand crimpers and insertion tools
- For small batches, repairs and special terminals.
- Formboard
- The full-size harness layout with pegs and connector holders.
- Taping gun and heat gun
- Tape the bundles and shrink the sleeves.
- Harness test board
- Checks each circuit for continuity and the right pin position.
Safety and PPE
Every plant sets its own safety rules. A shift can list what to bring or wear and the hard parts of the work, so read it before you book.
- Crimp press pinchKeep fingers out of the applicator, and never bypass the press guard.
- CutsWire ends and stripping blades cut: keep blades covered and bin the offcuts.
- Repetitive workInsertion and taping strain thumbs and wrists: use insertion tools, and rotate tasks where the line allows.
- Heat gunsHeat guns stay hot after use: park them on their stands.

Builds complete harnesses on the formboard alone and passes them at the test board; the NSQF qualification Wiring Harness Assembly Operator (NSQF 3) is written at about this level.
- L4Expert
Changes applicators, runs crimp height and pull tests for the line, sets up new harness layouts and guides others.

Guides, mentors and trains other harness operators, checks their work and helps keep drawings and boards right.
How your level rises
#1603 Wiring / Harness Assembly starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
