A soldering operator makes reliable solder joints by hand and on soldering machines: through-hole joints, wires to boards, touch-up after wave soldering and rework of joints that failed inspection. In SuperGig Partner this is skill #1605 Soldering Operator: add it in My Skills, where it starts at L1, and book the soldering shifts electronics plants in Hosur and Bengaluru post, with the pay and the level each needs shown first.

What soldering operator work involves
01What the work is
A solder joint is small, but it carries the current and the signal for the whole product, so it has to be right. A soldering operator heats the pad and the lead together with a clean, tinned iron at the right temperature, feeds solder into the joint rather than onto the iron, and stops when the solder has wetted both and formed a smooth, concave fillet. Bad joints have names: cold or grainy joints, bridges between pins, icicles, too little solder, lifted pads. Most plants now use lead-free solder, which needs higher temperatures and more care. Plants judge joints against workmanship standards such as IPC-A-610, and soldering operators learn to see the difference at a glance under magnification.
02A shift, start to finish
A soldering shift starts with the station: the tip cleaned and tinned, its temperature checked with a tip thermometer, flux and solder wire matched to the work instruction, the fume extractor on and the ESD strap tested. Then the work, joint by joint: through-hole parts the machines cannot solder, wires and cables to boards, touch-up of boards after wave soldering, or rework of joints the inspectors flagged. You inspect each board under the magnifier before passing it on, keep the tip clean through the shift and report anything that keeps going wrong. On a wave soldering machine the job shifts to loading boards, watching the fluxer, preheat and wave, and checking boards as they come off.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
#1605 sits in Assembly & Production Line and is mapped to NCO-2015 7212.0501 Soldering and Brazing Operator, at NSQF level 3; in the app’s skill standard, the NSQF qualification Hand Soldering Technician - Telecom Boards (NSQF 3) is written at about L3 Proficient. It has no licence gate, so it starts at L1 when you add it and rises with the soldering shifts plants approve. Brazing metal joints with a torch is a separate skill, #1210 Brazing Operator, in Welding & Fabrication.
What you do on soldering operator shifts
The usual tasks of the trade. Every shift in SuperGig Partner has its own job description with the duties, so you know the work before you book.
- 01
Set up the iron
Clean and tin the tip, check its temperature and choose the right tip for each joint.
- 02
Make the joint
Heat pad and lead together, feed solder into the joint and stop at a smooth fillet.
- 03
Wires to boards
Tin and solder wires and cable cores to pads and terminals, with strain relief.
- 04
Touch-up after wave
Fix the bridges, gaps and icicles that wave or selective soldering left behind.
- 05
Inspect under magnification
Check every joint against the workmanship standard before the board moves on.
- 06
Rework and clean
Remove bad joints with wick or a pump, remake them and clean off flux where required.
Machines, instruments and tools
- Temperature-controlled soldering station
- Holds the tip at the set temperature, joint after joint.
- Tips and a tip thermometer
- The right shape for each joint, and a check that the temperature is true.
- Lead-free solder wire and flux
- The alloy and flux the work instruction names.
- Desoldering wick and pump
- Remove solder for rework.
- Magnifier or stereo microscope
- Inspect joints up close.
- Fume extractor
- Draws flux fumes away from your face.
- ESD mat and wrist strap
- Protect parts while you work on them.
Safety and PPE
Every plant sets its own safety rules. A shift can list what to bring or wear and the hard parts of the work, so read it before you book.
- BurnsThe tip runs hot enough to burn instantly: always park the iron in its stand.
- FumesKeep the extractor close to the joint; flux fumes irritate the eyes and lungs.
- Lead and residueWash your hands before you eat or drink, and keep food away from the bench.
- SplashesSolder and flux can spit: wear safety glasses, especially when you clip leads.
Soldering operator levels, L1 Starter to L5 Master
Plants book by skill number and level. Add the numbered skills you can do; each one climbs from L1 to L5 as plants approve your shifts in it.
- L1Starter
Tins wires and solders simple through-hole joints under supervision, learning tip care and joint shape.
- L2Skilled
Solders at line pace with consistent joints and inspects their own work.
- L3Proficient
Does touch-up and rework alone and judges joints against the workmanship standard; the NSQF qualification Hand Soldering Technician - Telecom Boards (NSQF 3) is written at about this level.
- L4Expert
Handles fine-pitch and heavy thermal joints, checks wave and selective soldering results, and guides others.
- L5Master
Guides, mentors and trains other soldering operators, checks their joints and helps the line cut repeat defects.
How your level rises
#1605 Soldering Operator starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
Licences and standards for soldering operator work
Licences and certificates
- #2017 ESD Handling CertifiedSuperGig verifies
#1605 starts at L1 when you add it, with no licence gate. Soldering stations on electronics lines often list #2017 ESD Handling Certified, so it is worth adding and getting verified.
Skills marked “SuperGig verifies” count only once SuperGig has verified them.
