What plant maintenance technician work involves
01What the work is
Not every plant has a specialist for every job. In many factories the general maintenance technician is the person who walks the floor with the preventive maintenance checklist, tightens what has worked loose, changes a worn V-belt, cleans a clogged filter, stops an air leak on a pneumatic line, replaces a broken castor on a trolley, and gets a stopped machine moving again or calls the right specialist fast. The work is mostly mechanical and utility work, with basic electrical checks such as finding a tripped overload or a blown fuse; wiring and installation work stays with licensed electricians. People search for this as a maintenance technician job, a factory maintenance job or a maintenance helper job.
02A shift, start to finish
A typical shift starts with the day’s PM plan and the handover from the previous shift. You work through the checklist machine by machine: oil levels, grease points, belt tension, guards, air pressure, any new noise or heat, ticking each item and noting what needs a bigger repair. In between come the calls: an oven door that will not close, a leaking hydraulic hose on a press, a cooling fan that has stopped in a panel. You fix what you can safely fix, lock out and tag what you cannot, and raise a work request for the specialist, so nothing is left half-done when the shift ends.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
#1501 sits in Maintenance & Mechanical and is mapped to NCO-2015 3113.0101 Electrical Engineering, Technician/Maintenance Technician Electrical, at NSQF level 3; in the app’s skill standard, the NSQF qualification Maintenance Technician (NSQF 3) is written at about L3 Proficient. No licence holds it back, so it starts at L1 the day you add it, which makes it a sensible first maintenance skill for a helper or a fresh ITI. As you take on deeper work, add the specialist skills too, such as #1502 Mechanical Maintenance Fitter or #1504 Hydraulics & Pneumatics Technician, each with its own level.

How your level rises
#1501 Maintenance Technician (General) starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
