What power press and stamping operator work involves
01What the work is
Press shops turn flat steel into brackets, clips, washers, body panels, motor laminations and thousands of other stamped parts. A mechanical press drives the ram with a flywheel and crank; a hydraulic press pushes it with oil pressure and is used for deeper drawing. The die decides the job: a blanking die cuts the outline, a piercing die punches holes, a forming or drawing die shapes the metal, and a progressive die does several of these in steps as a coil strip moves through it. The die setter fixes the die in the press; the operator runs it safely, part after part.
02A shift, start to finish
A stamping shift starts with checks: the guard or light curtain working, the two-hand controls responding, the die clean, the scrap chute clear and the first part approved. Blanks are fed with tongs, magnetic lifters or a feeder, never with fingers inside the die area, and the press is run in single-stroke mode unless the plant sets it for continuous feeding from coil. You watch for burr height creeping up, splits on drawn corners, slug marks and dents, oil blanks if the job needs drawing oil, and stack parts with separators so they do not scratch. A cracked punch, a misfeed or a double blank means stop, report and wait for the setter.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
In the app, #1003 starts at L1. Plants can post press shifts with a minimum level, so an L1 Partner may get simpler blanking work while a plant running a progressive die at speed may ask for more. Your level rises from your record: approved #1003 shifts, verified on-time arrivals and plant ratings.

How your level rises
#1003 Power Press / Stamping Operator starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
