What plating and surface treatment work involves
01What the work is
Electroplating protects fasteners, brackets, auto and electrical parts from rust and gives handles and fittings their shine. Parts hang on racks or tumble in barrels and pass through a fixed sequence of tanks: alkaline degreasing, rinses, acid pickling, the plating tank where a rectifier passes current to deposit zinc, nickel, copper, tin or chrome, more rinses, then a passivate or sealer and drying. Anodising builds a hard oxide layer on aluminium, often dyed; phosphating prepares steel for paint or oil. The chemistry is looked after by the lab; the operator’s job is the right sequence, the right time and current, and careful handling.
02A shift, start to finish
A plating shift starts with the line check: tank levels and temperatures, rectifier settings for each job, rinse water flowing, and the bath readings the lab has posted. You load racks or barrels so parts do not touch or trap solution, move them through each tank for the set time by hoist or on the automatic line, and keep an eye on parts coming out: burning, dull patches, peeling, staining or bare spots mean something is off. You check coating thickness on samples, top up tanks only as instructed, record loads, times and currents, and keep the drip trays, floors and eyewash station clear.

How your level rises
#1013 Plating / Surface Treatment Operator starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
