What pharma production operator work involves
01What the work is
Oral solid dosage plants make tablets and capsules in a fixed chain: dispensing weighed raw materials, granulation in a rapid mixer granulator, drying in a fluid bed dryer, sizing and blending, compression on a rotary tablet press or filling into capsules, film coating, and then blister or bottle packing. All of it happens under good manufacturing practice, GMP, which in India is set out in the Schedule M rules. Rooms are classified and pressure-controlled, people gown before entering, and everything done to a batch is recorded in its batch manufacturing record, the BMR, as it happens.
02A shift, start to finish
A pharma shift starts at the change room: gowning in the right order, hand sanitising and checking the room’s differential pressure, temperature and humidity. Before a batch starts, the area and machine get line clearance so nothing from the last product remains. You set up the machine to the SOP, run it, and do in-process checks at the set intervals: tablet weight, hardness, thickness, friability and disintegration, or capsule fill weight. Each entry goes into the BMR in ink, signed and dated at the time it is done; cleaning goes into the equipment log. If anything goes wrong, from a wrong reading to a spill, you report it as a deviation rather than correcting the record yourself.
