A fire and safety steward keeps a plant ready for an emergency and safe day to day: checking extinguishers, hydrants, alarms and exits, standing fire watch during hot work, helping run drills and doing PPE and housekeeping rounds. Add skill #1904 Fire & Safety Steward in the SuperGig Partner app, and when plants in Hosur and around Bengaluru post fire and safety shifts, you see each one on the map with its pay before you book.

The work

What fire and safety steward work involves

01What the work is

Fire safety in a plant depends on equipment that works when it is needed and on people who know what to do. The steward walks the site on a schedule: extinguishers in place, sealed, pressurised and in date; hydrant and hose-reel points unobstructed; alarm call points and panels healthy; emergency lights working; exits and assembly points clear. During welding, cutting or grinding near anything that can burn, the steward stands fire watch with an extinguisher until the work ends and the area has cooled. Stewards also check that people wear the PPE their area needs, and report unsafe acts and conditions.

02A shift, start to finish

A shift starts with the safety officer’s list: permits issued for the day, areas under maintenance and any equipment out of service. Then come the rounds, ticking each item on the inspection checklist and tagging anything that fails. When a hot-work permit is active, you take up the fire watch and stay on after the work stops to check for smouldering. If an alarm sounds, you help guide people to the assembly point and support the headcount as the plant’s plan sets out. You finish by updating the inspection register and handing over open points.

03Your skill in SuperGig Partner

In the app this is #1904 Fire & Safety Steward, under Facility, Housekeeping & Safety. NCO-2015 has no matching occupation, so the app links the national Safety Steward qualification at NSQF level 4 and ESCO’s “operate fire extinguishers” skill. #1904 starts at L1 when you add it. Two certificates can go with it on a shift, #2010 Fire Warden / Fire Safety Certified and #2009 First-Aid Certified, and each counts only after SuperGig has verified it.

  • Small fires onlyUse an extinguisher only on a small, early fire; otherwise raise the alarm and get out.
  • No water on electricsNever use water or foam on live electrical equipment; use CO2 or the right powder.
  • Raise the alarm earlySound the plant alarm before you fight a fire, so help is coming either way.
Skill #1904 · Levels

  2. L2Skilled

You complete the daily checks on your own and keep the inspection register right.

  3. L3Proficient

You stand fire watch for hot work, spot hazards on your rounds and help run drills.

How your level rises

#1904 Fire & Safety Steward starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:

  • Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
  • Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
  • How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.

The app shows what your next level needs.

The skill check on a shift

A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.

A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.

Questions

Questions about fire and safety steward jobs

Can’t find your answer? Call or WhatsApp us. We speak English, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada.

Asked to pay for a shift?

Don’t pay. SuperGig never charges Partners to join or to get a shift.

Tell us
What does a fire and safety steward do in a factory?
A steward checks the plant’s fire equipment and escape routes on a schedule, stands fire watch while welding or cutting goes on, helps run drills and evacuations, and checks that people wear the right PPE. It is hands-on safety work on the floor, in support of the plant’s safety officer.
Do I need a fire safety course or diploma for #1904?
Not to add the skill: #1904 starts at L1 when you add it. A plant can still ask for #2010 Fire Warden / Fire Safety Certified or #2009 First-Aid Certified on its shift, and those count only once SuperGig has verified your certificate.
What is fire watch during hot work?
When welding, cutting or grinding happens near anything that can burn, a trained person stands by with an extinguisher, watches for sparks and stray flames, and stays after the work stops to make sure nothing is smouldering. The hot-work permit usually names the fire watch.
How do I get fire and safety work near Bommasandra with SuperGig?
Bommasandra’s industrial area on Hosur Road has electronics, engineering and auto-component plants, where hot work and fire checks are part of the routine. Add #1904 in My Skills and set your travel distance; when plants there post steward shifts, they show on the Find Shifts map with the pay. See jobs in Bommasandra.
Are fire and safety shifts available at night or on weekends?
When plants post them, yes. Hot work and fire checks are often scheduled while production is stopped, and each card shows its hours first; read night shift jobs and weekend shift jobs for how they work.
Is a fire and safety steward the same as a safety officer?
No. The steward does the checks, rounds and fire watch on the floor; the safety officer or EHS supervisor, #1905 Safety Officer / EHS Supervisor, runs the permits, inspections, investigations and records. They are separate skills in the app, and a shift lists the one it needs.
