What ETP and STP operator work involves
01What the work is
Most medium and large plants treat their own wastewater. An effluent treatment plant (ETP) handles water from processes such as plating, painting, washing and dyeing; a sewage treatment plant (STP) handles domestic sewage. Both take the water through stages: screening, an equalisation tank, chemical or biological treatment in aeration tanks, settling in clarifiers, filtration and sludge handling, often with a filter press. The operator runs the pumps and blowers, doses chemicals such as lime, alum and polyelectrolyte, takes samples, measures pH and other parameters, and keeps the plant within the limits its state pollution control board sets.
02A shift, start to finish
An ETP shift is a round of readings and adjustments. You start with the last shift’s log, then check flows, tank levels, pumps, blowers and the dosing tanks. Samples are taken at fixed points for pH, settling and the other tests the plant runs, and the dosing is adjusted to the results. Sludge is drawn off, pressed and bagged for disposal through the authorised route. All shift you watch for foaming, smell or a change in colour that means something upstream has changed, and you record every reading in the logbook.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
In the app this is #1907 ETP / STP Operator, under Facility, Housekeeping & Safety, matched to NCO-2015 3132.0400 (Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator); the national Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator qualification it maps to sits at NSQF level 4. Once added, it starts at L1. Treatment plants have tanks, sumps and pits, so a shift may also list #2007 Confined Space Certified, which counts only after SuperGig has verified it.

How your level rises
#1907 ETP / STP Operator starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
