A general electrician installs, tests and repairs the electrics of a plant: wiring, lighting, sockets, distribution boards, cable runs and earthing, and finds out why a circuit keeps tripping. In SuperGig Partner this is skill #1401 Electrician: it opens at L1 once SuperGig has verified your #2004 Electrical Wireman / Supervisor Licence, and then you book the electrician shifts plants in Hosur and Bengaluru post, with the pay shown before you book.

What electrician and wireman work involves
01What the work is
A general electrician keeps the building side of a plant safe and working. That means lighting over the shop floor, the stores and the canteen; power sockets for tools and machines; distribution boards with their MCBs, RCCBs and isolators; cable runs in trays and conduits; and the earthing that protects everyone who touches a machine. New work comes as a job card or a small layout drawing: a socket line for a new machine, high-bay lights over a new bay, a sub-DB for an office extension. Repairs fill the rest of the week: a breaker that trips every afternoon, a burnt plug top, a loose neutral that makes lights flicker, a cable crushed under a trolley route. People search for this as a wireman job, an ITI electrician job or a factory electrician job; in the Partner app it is one skill, #1401 Electrician.
02A shift, start to finish
A typical shift starts with the job list from the facility or maintenance in-charge and a check of your own kit: tester, multimeter, insulated screwdrivers, crimping tool. Before every job you switch off the right breaker, lock and tag it, and prove the circuit dead with a tester you have just checked on a live source. Then the work itself: pulling and dressing cable, fixing glands and lugs, terminating at the DB and labelling the circuit. Nothing is handed back untested: insulation resistance on new cable, polarity and earth continuity on sockets, a trip test on every RCCB you touched, and a line in the log saying what you did and what you measured.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
In the app, #1401 sits in Electrical & Instrumentation and is mapped to NCO-2015 7411.0100 Electrician, General, at NSQF level 4; in the app’s skill standard, the NSQF qualification Electrician (NSQF 4) is written at about L4 Expert. It is one of three electrical skills that wait for a licence, with #1402 Industrial / Maintenance Electrician and #1406 HT / LT Switchgear Technician, because electrical installation work in India is licensed: under the CEA (Measures relating to Safety and Electric Supply) Regulations, 2023, it is done by a wireman permit holder, supervised by a certificate-of-competency holder, for a State-licensed contractor. Once your #2004 is verified, #1401 starts at L1 and climbs only from your own record of electrician shifts.
What you do on electrician and wireman shifts
The usual tasks of the trade. Every shift in SuperGig Partner has its own job description with the duties, so you know the work before you book.
- 01
Isolate and prove dead
Switch off, lock and tag the breaker, then prove the circuit dead with a tester you have just checked on a live source.
- 02
Run and terminate cable
Lay cable in trays or conduit, fit glands, crimp lugs and terminate at the DB to the job card.
- 03
Lighting and sockets
Install and repair shop lighting, switches and industrial sockets, and keep every circuit labelled.
- 04
Find the trip
Trace why an MCB or RCCB keeps tripping: an overload, leakage to earth, a damaged cable or a faulty appliance.
- 05
Check the earthing
Test earth continuity and earth pit readings, and remake earth connections that have corroded or worked loose.
- 06
Test and record
Insulation-test new cable, trip-test RCCBs and write up what you changed before the circuit goes back into use.
Machines, instruments and tools
- Multimeter and clamp meter
- Voltage, continuity and load current, with a CAT rating that suits the supply you work on.
- Insulation resistance tester (megger)
- Checks new and suspect cables for insulation breakdown before they are energised.
- Earth resistance tester
- Measures earth pit and electrode readings on the periodic checks.
- Voltage tester and proving unit
- Proves a circuit dead before work, and proves the tester itself works first.
- Crimping tool, lugs and cable glands
- Make tight, lasting terminations at DBs, isolators and machine supply points.
- Insulated hand tools
- Screwdrivers, pliers and cutters insulated for low-voltage electrical work.
- Ladders and access platforms
- Reach high-bay fittings and overhead trays; above a safe height the plant’s height rules apply.
Safety and PPE
Every plant sets its own safety rules. A shift can list what to bring or wear and the hard parts of the work, so read it before you book.
- Never work liveLock out, tag out and prove dead every time, even for a two-minute lamp change.
- Gloves and bare handsWear electrical gloves rated for the voltage, and take off rings and watches before you open a board.
- Height and laddersUse a sound ladder or a platform for overhead work; #2006 Work-at-Height Certified is a certificate SuperGig verifies.
- If someone takes a shockCut the supply before you touch the person. On a live shift, the SOS button in the app calls 112 first.
Electrician and wireman levels, L1 Starter to L5 Master
Plants book by skill number and level. Add the numbered skills you can do; each one climbs from L1 to L5 as plants approve your shifts in it.
- L1Starter
Opens once SuperGig has verified the #2004 licence: lamp, switch and socket changes, cable pulling and conduit work beside a senior electrician who checks each job.
- L2Skilled
Handles routine jobs such as a new socket circuit or a damaged MCB on their own, with a senior checking the finished work and the test readings.
- L3Proficient
Works alone on familiar installations, finds common faults such as a loose neutral or an earth-leakage trip, and owns the test results.
- L4Expert
Takes on non-routine work such as new sub-DBs, feeder runs and earthing upgrades and guides the helpers alongside; the NSQF qualification Electrician (NSQF 4) is written at about this level.
- L5Master
Guides, mentors and trains other electricians, checks their terminations and test records, and improves how the plant’s electrical jobs are done.
How your level rises
Your #1401 Electrician skill starts at L1 once SuperGig has verified your #2004 Electrical Wireman / Supervisor Licence. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
Licences and standards for electrician and wireman work
Licences and certificates
L1 waits for a verified #2004 Electrical Wireman / Supervisor LicenceAdd the licence in the app, tap “Ask SuperGig to verify” and keep the original ready: SuperGig support will call you and check it against your verified Aadhaar. Only SuperGig can verify a licence or certificate.
- #2008 Hot Work / LOTO CertifiedSuperGig verifies
- #2006 Work-at-Height CertifiedSuperGig verifies
#1401 Electrician counts from L1 only after SuperGig has verified your #2004 Electrical Wireman / Supervisor Licence, the same rule as #1402 and #1406. A shift can also list #2008 Hot Work / LOTO Certified for isolation work, or #2006 Work-at-Height Certified for high-bay lighting and overhead trays.
Skills marked “SuperGig verifies” count only once SuperGig has verified them.
