An EOT crane and hoist operator lifts and moves heavy loads overhead in a plant, such as dies, coils, castings and fabricated frames, using an electric overhead travelling crane, a gantry or jib crane, or a chain hoist. In the SuperGig Partner app this is skill #1705 Crane / Hoist Operator: it counts once SuperGig has verified your #2002 Crane Operator Licence, and then the crane shifts that plants in Hosur and the Bengaluru hubs post show on your map with their pay.

What EOT crane and hoist operator work involves
01What the work is
Press shops, foundries, fabrication bays, machine shops and steel stockyards all depend on overhead cranes. An EOT (electric overhead travelling) crane runs on rails along the bay and is worked from a cabin, a hanging pendant or a radio remote; jib cranes and chain or electric hoists handle lighter lifts at one workstation. The operator plans each lift with the slinger: the weight, the centre of gravity, the right sling and shackle, the path the load will take and where it will land. Smooth control is the whole skill: no swinging, no sudden stops, and never a load over people.
02A shift, start to finish
A crane shift begins with the checks: the hook and its safety latch, wire ropes or chains for kinks and broken strands, the brakes, the limit switches at the ends of hoist and travel, every pendant or remote button and the emergency stop. Then come the shop’s lifts: a die into a press, castings to the fettling bay, a fabricated frame turned over for welding, coils onto a truck. You take signals from one slinger, sound the warning before travelling, and at the end park the crane at its home position with the hook raised and the power isolated.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
In the app this is #1705 Crane / Hoist Operator, matched to NCO-2015 8343.0501 (EOT Crane Operator); the national EOT Crane Operator qualification it maps to is at NSQF level 3. Because crane work is licensed, #1705 waits with no level until SuperGig verifies your #2002 Crane Operator Licence. After that it starts at L1 and rises only from your record of approved crane shifts, punctuality and plant ratings. Slinging and rigging heavy loads is a separate skill, #1211 Structural Fitter / Rigger.
What you do on EOT crane and hoist operator shifts
The usual tasks of the trade. Every shift in SuperGig Partner has its own job description with the duties, so you know the work before you book.
- 01
Crane check before the first lift
Check the hook latch, ropes or chains, brakes, limit switches, controls and emergency stop.
- 02
Know the weight
Confirm the load’s weight against the crane’s safe working load and the sling’s rating before you hoist.
- 03
Work to one set of signals
Take signals from one slinger only, and stop at once whenever anyone gives the stop signal.
- 04
Lift, travel, lower
Take up the slack slowly, lift just clear, travel smoothly and lower onto the marked spot.
- 05
Warn before travelling
Sound the bell or horn and check that the path below is clear of people.
- 06
Park and report
Park at the home position with the hook up, isolate the power and record any defect.
Machines, instruments and tools
- EOT crane
- An electric overhead travelling crane on rails along the bay, worked from a cabin, pendant or radio remote.

- For lighter lifts at a machine or an assembly station.
- Wire rope slings and shackles
- Wire rope, chain and webbing slings with a marked rating, inspected before use.
- Pendant and radio remote
- Push-button controls for hoist, cross travel and long travel, with an emergency stop.
- Tag lines
- Ropes that steady a load from a safe distance, so nobody has to hold it.
Safety and PPE
Every plant sets its own safety rules. A shift can list what to bring or wear and the hard parts of the work, so read it before you book.
- Nobody under the loadNever carry a load over people, and clear the area before you lift.
- Within the rated loadNever exceed the crane’s or the sling’s rating, and refuse a lift whose weight nobody knows.
- No side pullsLift straight up; never drag a load sideways or yank it out from under something.
- Helmet in the bayWear a helmet and safety shoes wherever loads move overhead.
EOT crane and hoist operator levels, L1 Starter to L5 Master
Plants book by skill number and level. Add the numbered skills you can do; each one climbs from L1 to L5 as plants approve your shifts in it.
- L1Starter
With your licence verified, you make light, simple lifts in a clear bay with a slinger guiding you.
- L2Skilled
You handle the shop’s routine lifts, such as parts to machines and loads to trucks, under supervision.
- L3Proficient
You work a shift’s lifts on your own, plan them with the slinger and stop poor slinging before you hoist.
- L4Expert
You take heavy, awkward and two-crane lifts and die changes, and direct the slingers working with you.
- L5Master
You train crane operators and slingers, check their work and help set the plant’s lifting rules.
How your level rises
Your #1705 Crane / Hoist Operator skill starts at L1 once SuperGig has verified your #2002 Crane Operator Licence. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
Licences and standards for EOT crane and hoist operator work
Licences and certificates
L1 waits for a verified #2002 Crane Operator LicenceAdd the licence in the app, tap “Ask SuperGig to verify” and keep the original ready: SuperGig support will call you and check it against your verified Aadhaar. Only SuperGig can verify a licence or certificate.
Until SuperGig has checked your licence, the app marks #1705 “Needs a verified Crane Operator Licence (#2002)” and gives it no level, so crane shifts stay closed to you.
