What conveyor maintenance work involves
01What the work is
Conveyors link a plant together. Belt conveyors carry parts and cartons, roller conveyors move pallets and totes, chain and slat conveyors carry heavy assemblies, overhead conveyors take parts through paint shops and assembly lines, and sorters route parcels in warehouses. When one stops, everything behind it stops too. Conveyor maintenance keeps them running: tracking belts so they run centred, setting tension at the take-up, replacing seized rollers and worn idlers, splicing or lacing belts, tensioning and lubricating chains, changing sprockets, bearings and gearbox oil, adjusting scrapers, and testing the pull-cords and emergency stops that protect everyone along the line.
02A shift, start to finish
A shift often starts with a walk of the lines before production speeds up: you look for a belt running off-centre, listen for a squealing roller, check chain sag and look for spillage that shows a worn scraper. Small jobs are fixed in breaks or between waves, always with the conveyor isolated and locked; bigger jobs such as a belt splice or a drive change are planned for the weekend. When a conveyor trips, you check the obvious first, a jam, a pulled cord or a tripped motor, and work with the electrician when the fault is in the drive or the sensors.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
#1509 sits in Maintenance & Mechanical and is mapped to NCO-2015 7233.0401 Belt Conveyor Maintenance, at NSQF level 3; in the app’s skill standard, the NSQF qualification Belt Conveyor Mechanic (NSQF 3) is written at about L3 Proficient. It has no licence gate, so it starts at L1 when you add it, and your level rises with the conveyor shifts plants approve. Operating a hoist or an EOT crane is a separate skill, #1705 Crane / Hoist Operator, which waits for a verified crane licence.

Safety and PPE

- Never work on a running conveyorIsolate and lock out before you touch a belt, roller or chain, even to clear a jam.
- Nip pointsWhere a belt meets a pulley or a chain meets a sprocket, it pulls in hands and sleeves: keep the guards on.
- Overhead conveyorsOverhead lines need a platform or a harness; #2006 Work-at-Height Certified is a certificate SuperGig verifies.
- Stops must workReport any pull-cord or e-stop that fails its test, and do not restart the line until it is fixed.

How your level rises
#1509 Conveyor / Material-Handling Maintenance starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
