What boiler operator work involves
01What the work is
Food, textile, rubber, pharma and chemical plants run on steam: for cooking, drying, curing, sterilising and heating. The boiler house turns fuel, such as diesel, gas, biomass briquettes or coal, into steam at a set pressure, or heats thermic fluid for high-temperature processes. Because a boiler stores a large amount of energy, the law requires a certified person in charge of it, and inspectors check boilers regularly. The operator watches the water level in the gauge glass, the steam pressure, the burner or furnace, the feed pump and the water treatment, and keeps an hourly log that shows the boiler was run safely.
02A shift, start to finish
A boiler shift starts with the log and the hand-over, then the rounds: water level checked on the gauge glass and blown through, pressure and safety valve condition, feed water tank and softener, fuel stock and the burner or grate. During the shift you keep the level steady, fire to the steam demand, carry out blowdowns on schedule to control the dissolved solids, check the feed water hardness and TDS, and record readings every hour. Any low-water alarm, a stuck safety valve or an unusual noise is treated as an emergency under the plant’s procedure. Start-up and shut-down follow written steps, never shortcuts.

The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
