A robotics and cobot technician keeps industrial robots and collaborative robots working: recovering cells after faults, touching up taught points, changing grippers and tooling, and proving the guarding around each cell. In SuperGig Partner this is skill #1407 Robotics / Cobot Technician: add it in My Skills, where it starts at L1, and book the robotics shifts plants in Hosur and Bengaluru post, where each shift shows the level it needs and its pay first.

What robotics and cobot technician work involves
01What the work is
Industrial robots weld, paint, load machines, handle parts and stack finished goods; cobots work beside people at assembly and inspection stations, at lower speeds and forces. A robotics technician keeps those cells productive. That means recovering a robot after a fault and bringing it back to its home position, touching up a taught point after a fixture or gripper change, checking the tool centre point of a welding torch, changing grippers, suction cups and other end-of-arm tooling, and maintaining the cell: cable and hose dress, joint lubrication on the maker’s schedule, encoder backup batteries, air supply and sensors. Most plant work is keeping existing cells running; designing and programming new cells from scratch is usually work for the robot integrator.
02A shift, start to finish
A typical shift starts with the cell status and the fault history from the last shift. A collision alarm on a handling robot means a careful recovery: find what it hit, check the gripper and the part, jog it clear in manual mode at reduced speed, and confirm its positions before you run in automatic again. A gripper that keeps dropping parts may need new pads, or its vacuum generator cleaned. On a welding cell, spatter on the torch shifts the tool centre point, so you clean it and check it against the plant’s reference pin. Before you leave, you back up the robot programs you touched and record what you changed and why.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
#1407 sits in Electrical & Instrumentation and is mapped to NCO-2015 3139.1400 Robotic Machine Operator, at NSQF level 3; in the app’s skill standard, the NSQF qualification Assistant Robotics Technician (Introduction) (NSQF 3) is written at about L3 Proficient. It is a specialist skill, and the app is straightforward about it: #1407 starts at L1 when you add it, with no licence gate, and rises only from the robotics shifts plants approve for you. Running welding robots has its own skill, #1209 Robotic Welding Operator, and a shift can list both.
What you do on robotics and cobot technician shifts
The usual tasks of the trade. Every shift in SuperGig Partner has its own job description with the duties, so you know the work before you book.
- 01
Recover after a fault
Find what stopped the robot, clear it safely and bring it back to home before automatic running.
- 02
Touch up points
Re-teach positions after a fixture, gripper or part change, within the plant’s procedure.
- 03
Grippers and tooling
Change and set grippers, suction cups and other end-of-arm tooling, and the sensors on them.
- 04
Preventive maintenance
Check cables and hoses, lubricate joints on the schedule and replace encoder backup batteries.
- 05
Prove the guarding
Test door interlocks, light curtains, area scanners and e-stops after any work in the cell.
- 06
Back up programs
Save the robot programs you changed, and record what changed and why.
Machines, instruments and tools
- Teach pendant
- Jogs the robot, teaches points and selects programs, with an enabling switch for manual work.
- Laptop with the robot backup software
- Saves and restores robot programs and settings.
- TCP check pin or jig
- Confirms a torch or tool still points where the program expects.
- Multimeter
- Checks sensor signals, 24-volt supplies and the I/O to the cell.
- Grease gun and the specified lubricant
- Lubricates robot joints on the maintenance schedule.
- Spare grippers, suction cups and sensors
- The tooling parts a cell wears out most.
Safety and PPE
Every plant sets its own safety rules. A shift can list what to bring or wear and the hard parts of the work, so read it before you book.
- Lock the cell firstPut your own padlock on the cell door or isolator before you go inside the fence.
- Manual mode, reduced speedJog only in manual at reduced speed, hold the enabling switch and stay out of the robot’s reach.
- Cobots are not harmlessA cobot carrying a sharp or hot tool needs the same care as a robot, and its safety settings belong to the plant.
- Never defeat guardingDo not bypass an interlock, a light curtain or a scanner to save time.
Robotics and cobot technician levels, L1 Starter to L5 Master
Plants book by skill number and level. Add the numbered skills you can do; each one climbs from L1 to L5 as plants approve your shifts in it.
- L1Starter
Runs a cell to its work instruction: loads parts, starts cycles and resets common alarms, with a technician at hand.
- L2Skilled
Recovers a robot after routine stops, changes grippers and suction cups, and jogs in manual at reduced speed under supervision.
- L3Proficient
Touches up points, checks the tool centre point and handles routine faults and maintenance alone; the NSQF qualification Assistant Robotics Technician (Introduction) (NSQF 3) is written at about this level.
- L4Expert
Takes on non-routine faults, tooling changes and program edits the plant approves, and guides others on the cell.
- L5Master
Guides, mentors and trains other robot technicians, checks their recoveries and changes, and helps the plant cut repeat stops.
How your level rises
#1407 Robotics / Cobot Technician starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
Licences and standards for robotics and cobot technician work
Licences and certificates
- #2008 Hot Work / LOTO CertifiedSuperGig verifies
#1407 has no licence gate in the app: it starts at L1 when you add it. Cell maintenance shifts can list #2008 Hot Work / LOTO Certified, because every entry into a cell starts with a lockout.
Skills marked “SuperGig verifies” count only once SuperGig has verified them.
