A MIG welder joins steel with a wire-fed torch and shielding gas, the fast, clean process behind most production welding of chassis parts, seat frames, two-wheeler frames, brackets and exhausts, often on welding fixtures. In SuperGig Partner this is skill #1202: add it after KYC and book the MIG welding shifts plants in Hosur and Bengaluru post, with the pay shown before you book.

What MIG welder work involves
01What the work is
MIG welding, also called MAG or CO2 welding, feeds a solid or flux-cored wire through the torch as the electrode while a gas shield of carbon dioxide or an argon mix protects the weld pool. Because the wire feeds continuously, welds are long and fast, which makes MIG the standard process in auto-component and fabrication plants. The welder controls voltage and wire feed speed, gas flow, the distance the wire sticks out, the torch angle and travel speed, and chooses between short-circuit transfer for thin sheet and positional work and spray transfer for thick, flat welds.
02A shift, start to finish
A production MIG shift usually runs at a welding fixture that holds the parts. You check the gas cylinder and flowmeter, the wire spool and feed rollers, the liner, nozzle and contact tip, and set the parameters from the welding instruction sheet. Parts are loaded and clamped, welded in the set sequence, unloaded and checked: weld length and size, position, porosity, undercut, burn-through and spatter. The nozzle is cleaned and anti-spatter applied regularly, and contact tips are changed when the arc becomes unstable. Sample parts may be cut and etched by quality to check penetration, so you keep the settings steady.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
#1202 starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Plants can post MIG shifts with a minimum level, for example a higher level for thin-sheet or positional welding where burn-through and porosity are easy to get. SuperGig raises your level from approved #1202 shifts, verified on-time arrivals and plant ratings.
What you do on MIG welder shifts
The usual tasks of the trade. Every shift in SuperGig Partner has its own job description with the duties, so you know the work before you book.
- 01
Set voltage and wire speed
Set the parameters from the welding instruction sheet for the job and wire size.
- 02
Check gas and wire
Check the gas flow, cylinder, wire spool, feed rollers and liner before you start.
- 03
Load the fixture
Load and clamp parts in the welding fixture in the right order.
- 04
Weld the sequence
Weld in the set sequence with steady torch angle and travel speed.
- 05
Check every part
Check weld size, length and position, and look for porosity, undercut and burn-through.
- 06
Torch care
Clean the nozzle, apply anti-spatter and change contact tips when the arc wanders.
Machines, instruments and tools
- MIG/MAG power source and wire feeder
- Supplies current and feeds the wire at a set speed.
- MIG torch and consumables
- Nozzles, contact tips, diffusers and liners that wear and are changed.
- Gas regulator and flowmeter
- Set the shielding gas flow from the cylinder.
- Welding fixtures and jigs
- Hold parts in the right position for repeatable welds.
- Anti-spatter spray and nozzle cleaner
- Keep spatter from blocking the gas shield.
- Fillet weld gauge
- Checks weld size against the drawing.
Safety and PPE
Every plant sets its own safety rules. A shift can list what to bring or wear and the hard parts of the work, so read it before you book.
- Cylinders chainedKeep gas cylinders upright and chained, with valves closed when not in use.
- UV and arc lightWear a helmet with the right shade and cover your skin: MIG arcs burn like sunburn.
- Fume extractionKeep the fume extraction arm close to the weld.
- Hot partsWelded parts stay hot: handle them with leather gloves or tongs.
MIG welder levels, L1 Starter to L5 Master
Plants book by skill number and level. Add the numbered skills you can do; each one climbs from L1 to L5 as plants approve your shifts in it.
- L1Starter
Welds simple fillets in the flat position on a set fixture, with steady settings.
- L2Skilled
Runs a welding fixture through the shift and keeps porosity and spatter low.
- L3Proficient
Welds thin sheet and positional joints without burn-through and adjusts parameters within limits.
- L4Expert
Handles new fixtures, solves weld defects and helps quality with cut-and-etch results.
- L5Master
A MIG welder plants trust with their most demanding parts, with a long #1202 record.
How your level rises
#1202 MIG Welder starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
Licences and standards for MIG welder work
Licences and certificates
- #2008 Hot Work / LOTO CertifiedSuperGig verifies
No licence is needed to add #1202. #2008 Hot Work / LOTO Certified counts once SuperGig has verified it, for plants that issue hot work permits.
Skills marked “SuperGig verifies” count only once SuperGig has verified them.
