What canteen and pantry work involves
01What the work is
A plant canteen serves large numbers of meals around the shift changes, often breakfast, lunch, dinner and a night meal, with tea and snacks in between. Kitchen helpers wash, peel and cut vegetables, measure out rice and dal, and help the cooks with big vessels. At meal times you serve at the counter, keep the line moving and refill dishes, then clear and wipe the tables. Pantry staff run tea, coffee and snacks for offices and meetings. Through it all, food hygiene comes first: hands washed, hair covered, raw and cooked food apart and every surface cleaned.
02A shift, start to finish
A canteen shift starts well before the first meal. You change into the apron and cap, wash your hands and start the prep the cook gives you. As the break nears, counters are set, hot food is kept hot and the serving line opens on time, because each production shift has a fixed break. After service comes the big clean: vessels, plates, counters and floors, with wet and dry waste sorted. Before you leave, stocks are noted and the kitchen is ready for the next meal.
03Your skill in SuperGig Partner
In the app this is #1903 Canteen / Pantry, under Facility, Housekeeping & Safety, matched to NCO-2015 9412.0100 (Kitchen Helper) and the national Pantry Assistant qualification at NSQF level 2. You are at L1 in it as soon as you add it. The app also cites FSSAI’s FoSTaC food-safety training for this skill, and a shift can list #2016 HACCP / FSSAI (Food) Certified, which counts only after SuperGig verifies it. #1903 covers kitchen help, serving and pantry work rather than running the kitchen.

How your level rises
#1903 Canteen / Pantry starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:
- Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
- Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
- How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.
The app shows what your next level needs.
The skill check on a shift
A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.
A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.
