Also calledcalibration technician,metrology technician,gauge calibration technician,instrument calibration technician,metrology lab technician,NABL lab technician

A calibration and metrology technician checks the plant’s measuring instruments and gauges, such as verniers, micrometers, dial gauges, plug and ring gauges, pressure gauges and torque wrenches, against reference standards, records how far they are off, and labels them fit or unfit for use. In SuperGig Partner this is skill #1307: add it after KYC and book the calibration shifts plants and labs in Hosur and Bengaluru post, with the pay shown before you book.

The work

What calibration and metrology technician work involves

01What the work is

Every measurement on the shop floor is only as good as the instrument that made it. Calibration compares an instrument with a more accurate reference standard, such as gauge blocks, setting rings, a dial calibrator, a pressure comparator or a torque calibrator, whose own calibration traces back to national standards. The technician records the errors at several points across the range, works out whether the instrument is within its permitted error, and issues a calibration record and a label with the next due date. Plants keep a recall list so nothing is used past its due date, and labs that issue certificates to others are usually accredited to ISO/IEC 17025.

02A shift, start to finish

A calibration shift starts with the due list: which instruments are due, where they are, and which are overdue. Instruments are collected, cleaned and left to stabilise in the lab’s controlled temperature. You calibrate each one to its procedure, for example checking a micrometer at several points with gauge blocks and its anvil flatness with an optical flat, or a pressure gauge on a comparator at rising and falling pressures, and record every reading. Instruments that pass get a label and go back; those that fail are quarantined, and quality is told so it can check what they were used for. Records and the recall list are updated before you leave.

03Your skill in SuperGig Partner

#1307 starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Plants can list #1307 on a shift with a minimum level, perhaps asking for more for pressure, torque and electrical calibration. SuperGig raises your level only from your record, approved #1307 shifts, verified on-time arrivals and plant ratings, and the app makes no promise of titles or pay; every shift shows its pay before you book.

On the shift

What you do on calibration and metrology technician shifts

The usual tasks of the trade. Every shift in SuperGig Partner has its own job description with the duties, so you know the work before you book.

  1. 01

    Work the due list

Find instruments due or overdue for calibration and collect them.

  2. 02

    Clean and stabilise

Clean instruments and let them reach the lab’s temperature before testing.

  3. 03

    Compare with standards

Compare readings with gauge blocks, setting rings or calibrators at several points.

  4. 04

    Record the errors

Record every reading and work out whether the instrument is within its limits.

  5. 05

    Label or quarantine

Label passing instruments with the next due date and quarantine failures.

  6. 06

    Update the recall list

Keep the recall system current so nothing is used past its due date.

Machines, instruments and tools

Gauge block set
Reference lengths for calibrating calipers and micrometers.
Setting rings and master gauges
For bore gauges, plug and ring gauges.
Dial calibrator
Checks dial gauges and indicators along their travel.
Pressure comparator or deadweight tester
Calibrates pressure gauges and transmitters.
Torque calibrator
Checks torque wrenches and screwdrivers.
Temperature and humidity logger
Proves the lab conditions during calibration.

Safety and PPE

Every plant sets its own safety rules. A shift can list what to bring or wear and the hard parts of the work, so read it before you book.

  • Handle standards with careUse gloves or tongs on gauge blocks; fingerprints and heat change readings.
  • Pressure systemsRelease pressure fully before disconnecting gauges from a comparator.
  • Quarantine is finalNever return a failed instrument to the floor, even for one more job.
Skill #1307 · Levels

Calibration and metrology technician levels, L1 Starter to L5 Master

Plants book by skill number and level. Add the numbered skills you can do; each one climbs from L1 to L5 as plants approve your shifts in it.

  1. L1Starter

Collects, cleans and labels instruments and assists in the lab.

  2. L2Skilled

Calibrates calipers, micrometers and dial gauges to procedure with clean records.

  3. L3Proficient

Calibrates plug, ring and bore gauges and handles the recall list on their own.

  4. L4Expert

Adds pressure and torque calibration and helps investigate failed instruments.

  5. L5Master

A calibration technician plants trust with their full measurement system, with a long #1307 record.

How your level rises

#1307 Calibration / Metrology Technician starts at L1 when you add it in My Skills. Each skill climbs from L1 to L5. Only SuperGig sets a level, from your record, never the app. Three things move it up:

  • Approved shifts in the skillShifts a plant approved that listed this skill when it was posted.
  • Arriving on timeAn arrival SuperGig verified, such as the WorkPass check at the gate.
  • How plants rate your workIt counts once a plant has rated you. Before that it never holds you back.

The app shows what your next level needs.

The skill check on a shift

A plant can list skills on a shift with one minimum level for all of them, from L1 to L5. You need every listed skill at that level, and SuperGig checks yours before the booking is accepted.

A shift with no skills listed has no skill check: any KYC-verified Partner can book it.

Can’t find your answer? Call or WhatsApp us. We speak English, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada.

Asked to pay for a shift?

Don’t pay. SuperGig never charges Partners to join or to get a shift.

Tell us
What does calibration mean?
Comparing a measuring instrument with a more accurate reference standard, recording how far it is off across its range, and deciding whether it is still fit to use. It does not always mean adjusting it.
What is traceability?
An unbroken chain of calibrations from an instrument up through its reference standards to national standards. It is why a micrometer reading in Hosur means the same as one anywhere else.
Are there weekend or night calibration shifts?
Production instruments are easiest to collect when lines are stopped, so calibration work is sometimes planned for weekends or night shifts. When plants post #1307 shifts at those times, you can book them; see weekend shift jobs, night shift jobs and part-time and flexible shifts.
How do I get calibration work near Electronic City or Peenya with SuperGig?
Join as a Partner, complete KYC and add #1307 in My Skills. Set your travel distance to cover Electronic City, Peenya or other hubs; when plants or labs post calibration shifts, they appear on your map with the duties and pay. Call +91 79969 95996 if you need help.
What is the difference between a calibration technician and a CMM operator?
A calibration technician checks the instruments and gauges themselves against standards. A CMM operator (#1305) measures parts. Both work in metrology, and many plants have them in the same room.
